Â
It might seem like the western half of the United States has the best scenic drives, but that's not the case! Thankfully, you don't have to cross the country to see some of the best views in the country, because the U.S. East Coast is full of some of the nation's best scenic drives!Â
The Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway is the most popular of the East Coast scenic drives and one of the most visited places in the nation, and for good reason! The parkway stretches between two states and offers some of the most incredible views in America. The drive starts in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and ends in North Carolina near Great Smoky Mountains National Park. From start to finish, the parkway is full of unique scenery. Along the way, you'll find dozens of places to stop and take in the scenery. The Blue Ridge Parkway goes through multiple tunnels and passes by popular cities and attractions like Roanoke, VA, Asheville, NC, the Biltmore Estate and countless breweries, trailheads and more.
Skyline Drive
The Blue Ridge Parkway isn't the only scenic drive on the East Coast that draws a crowd. Skyline Drive covers 105 miles of the beautiful Shenandoah National Park and offers drivers an abundance of gorgeous scenery. Beginning in Front Royal, VA, Skyline Drive heads south, ending in Rockfish Gap, VA, including 75 amazing overlooks along the way. If you finish at the southern end, head east and check out Charlottesville, VA, a beautiful college town full of history and culture.
The Overseas Highway on U.S. 1 in Florida
If you like neverending blue skies and sunny beaches more than mountains and overlooks, then you need to drive the Overseas Highway on U.S. 1 in Florida. It starts in Miami and ends in Key West, spanning 113 miles and featuring 42 bridges and all the blue ocean water you could dream of. Once you reach the end of the highway in Key West, grab some authentic Key Lime Pie, a cocktail and hit the beach!
